Status update (including TWO upcoming games!)

· 4 min read

It turns out moving across the country costs a bit of time, work, money, and sanity! BUT: I am very much alive, finally getting settled, and have progress to share!

For One Year is Out of Early Access!

A couple months ago, I got For One Year to a point where it felt feature-complete, so released it as a full game, out of early access!

There are absolutely things that could still be improved (such as the dance with Death minigame), and I'm sure people will find a couple typos and edge-case bugs. The game may receive minor updates to address such issues, but is otherwise going on the back-burner to give time for other games.

Such as...

Upcoming Games, Game 1: Pale Light, a Free Forensic Horror Game

Last year, for Halloween, I started creating a short horror game about a medical examiner who's trying to determine the cause of death of several bodies brought to her by the FBI. The game is definitely X-Files-inspired, with a cult, supernatural elements, and two FBI agent (one more skeptical than the other).

I wasn't able to quiiiite finish it in time for Halloween of 2024, but the game has been done for half a year, already! I might take another polish pass, but either way, you can be sure to get Pale Light this Halloween!

itch.io & Steam store pages coming soon!

Upcoming Games, Game 2: a Full-fledged Dating Sim + 80s-themed Racing RPG

Like For One Year, this game (name still TBD) is a blend of visual novel, sexy dates, and RPG elements where you can play as a male or female. Unlike For One Year, in this game you play as an up-and-coming pro racer in the early 80s, and can choose to date men and/or women!

No fishing or hunting here; instead, you'll play a board game-inspired racing game. Between races, you'll be able to upgrade your car and racing skills with some light deck-building. Acquire new cards by buying upgrades, and having fun with your dates ;)

Finally, I love how the soundtrack is turning out for this game! For One Year's soundtrack was serviceable, but I think One Possible Future really upped Hushberry's soundtrack quality, and this game keeps that quality going with a blend of synthwave, funk, and jazz that I legitimately want to just listen to.

You can expect a soundtrack release on Hushberry's Soundcloud as the game nears release!

Upcoming Games, Game 3, Maybe?! a Roguelike Tactical RPG Thing!?!?

Sometimes when the topic of immortality comes up, people will say "I'd get bored after a while." And I'm like "wtf are you talking about? Even with unlimited time, I wouldn't be able to work on half the ideas I have."

What started as "I'll just make a quick proof of concept of a rogue-like, tile-based, tactical RPG" now has four datable characters, a gallery of unlockable pictures (similar to One Possible Future), a growing list of spells and passives, and even the beginnings of a soundtrack.

The game is still lacking a lot of polish, though - in-combat art, spell animations, and sound effects are all lacking. Depending on how much time and attention this game gets, it could be a little $5 release, or a larger $10-$15 game with the depth, combos, and replayability expected of indie roguelikes in that price tier.

Time will tell!

Not Even a Game, but Already Out: Creatures of the Spillwilds, a Mini Book of 10 Monsters

While I was gearing up to move, I didn't have the time or mental capacity to work on the as-of-yet-unnamed 80s-themed racing RPG. Still, inspired by those indie 'zines you may have seen in gaming shops, I sated my creative urges by publishing a mini book of 10 monsters.

The book is available on itch.io and DriveThruRPG.

That's All for Now!

👋 Thanks for reading, thanks for playing, and have fun out there! ;)
